BEROWRA

Perched above the dramatic landscape of Berowra, this remarkable project transformed a steep and previously unusable cliffside area into a luxury outdoor retreat featuring a vanishing-edge pool, expansive pool surrounds, an outdoor shower and a custom fireplace. While the finished result appears effortless, the scale of engineering required to bring the vision to life was significant, with a six-metre drop from the construction area to the base of the cliff.

A substantial amount of structural and civil work was undertaken to create a safe and usable outdoor environment. The vanishing edge pool was constructed entirely above ground, supported by large concrete piers, steel reinforcement and engineered foundations designed to withstand the challenging site conditions.

Our scope included the construction of pool surrounds, concrete stairs, paving, retaining walls, sandstone cladding, planting and automated irrigation. Travertine paving was selected throughout the pool area to create a timeless and elegant finish, while brick retaining walls were clad and capped in sandstone to complement the surrounding landscape.

To maintain focus on the spectacular Berowra bushland backdrop, the planting palette was intentionally minimal. A combination of Buxus and Conifers provides structure and greenery without competing with the natural surroundings and expansive views. Additional features included frameless glass pool fencing, a screened outdoor shower and a concealed movable section of stone walling that provides access to the property's fire hose, an important requirement for fire-prone areas.

The result is a highly engineered yet visually seamless outdoor space that maximises its unique cliffside position, creating a resort-style retreat that feels perfectly integrated into the surrounding Berowra landscape.
